Hello. Here at the Book Rest Café based in Brentwood library we offer training in all aspects of hospitality along with till training, ordering of stock and customer service. We are an inspiring place of work that give practical bite-sized training in customer service.

About us

Our staff offer hands-on training, advice on reaching goals and gaining an insight into every aspect of working in a cafe.

Trainees produce hot drinks directly from a commercial coffee machine as well as selling a variety of light snacks. The cafe enables trainees to develop the customer service skills that could lead to paid employment in your local area.

Staff support trainees in gaining money-handling experience as well as the health & safety essentials, skills any potential employer would genuinely value.

So, if you are seeking a job in a cafe or restaurant, the Book Rest Cafes are ideal places to kick-start your career.

Sarah was a customer who started with us and would only serve and speak to customers that she knew, as she didn't have the confidence to speak to new people. After a couple of months, she settled in and was encouraged by staff to engage more with whoever wanted to purchase a beverage or snack. Sarah was often complimented on how nice she made a cup of coffee and this boosted her confidence and she now has no problem talking to new people and starting the conversation. We love seeing trainees like Sarah flourish.

Prices will depend on the length of your session(s) and the level of support you need. As an example a full day with one of our services would typically start at around £58. Please note that you will be assessed on the levels of support you need.
