Sam
Sports fan Sam first joined ECL’s Community Equipment Services team back in 2010 on a temporary contract when he left college. 12 years later, he’s still with us and has been promoted throughout his employment.....…

“ECL is such a great company. It offers a range of different and exciting experiences, with huge opportunity for personal and professional development.”
When Sam left college in 2010, he was holding down several part-time sports coaching positions but needed a role that was more substantial. He was pointed in the direction of ECL’s Community Equipment Service (CES) and was able to pick up a temporary job based in the warehouse, refurbishing essential kit and acting as driver’s mate for the delivery crew. That temporary job turned into a two-year post, but Sam was keen to stick around even longer.
“After two years as a temp, a permanent position with CES became available so of course I applied” he says. “I’d loved being in the warehouse. All my colleagues were working toward the same goals and there was such a great family feel within the team that I knew I wanted to stay on if I could. I still remember how pleased I was when I learnt that I’d been successful.”
Since becoming a full-time ECL employee in 2012, Sam has capitalised on the company’s commitment to developing talent from within. He has embraced every opportunity to further his career, progressing from store person to driver and fitter, Occupational Therapist administrator, and distribution team leader, before landing his most recent promotion to customer service and resource planning manager. He says, “ECL provides people with the chance to build a career with the company – I’m evidence of that. Aside from my own personal experience, it’s been really encouraging to see those around me do well, too.”
Sam has always had the backing of his managers, who have supported him through some difficult times and encouraged him to reach his full potential. Knowing he can call on them for help has given him the confidence to tackle new challenges and seeing the difference he and his colleagues make to customer’s lives has convinced him that he’s where he’s meant to be. “The CES team provide a vital and truly amazing service to customers across the county. I love knowing that the work we’re doing is helping to keep people safe and allowing them to maintain their independence,” says Sam.
He adds, “I’ve learnt so much since I joined back in 2010 and I’m still learning today. ECL really is such a great company. It offers a range of different and exciting experiences, with huge opportunity for personal and professional development. As a manager myself now, I strive to offer my team the same level of support and guidance that I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy and I’m really looking forward to helping more people like me to achieve great things with CES.”
