I started working with ECL in March 2015. I started off as an Apprentice and I completed my apprenticeship in December 2015 and got my level 2 NVQ! When I started I was very shy and quiet, the staff and managers at Maryland’s helped me a lot and pushed me to do things so I would gain my confidence. I completed all my training and have gained a lot of confidence since starting here. This helps me in and out of work!
Since finishing my apprenticeship I went on to work in the garden with a boy with learning disabilities and again the staff in Redlands were very helpful and patient as I had no knowledge of gardening, we carried out different projects and planted different vegetables.
Overall my experience working as a carer with ECL has been great. I have gained knowledge about dementia and how many different types there are. Some days are challenging but it is very rewarding too!
