Boccia is quite the sport

< Return to Blog list | Feb 22, 2016

Boccia is a sport that is played at a local, national and international level by people with physical disabilities. We know that being physically active can help people to live a healthier, happier life and keeps their key mental skills sharp. Recently some of our ECL customers from Woodlands Wellbeing Hub in Colchester and Chapter House Wellbeing Hub in Maldon came together and put their Boccia skills to the test by having a mini taster session.

John, ECL staff who facilitated the event said; “It was such a successful day with everyone participating. They had a great time learning how to play the game and they were all determined to overcome their disabilities.”

Boccia Facts:

  • All players compete in wheelchairs
  • The sport was adopted for people with disabilities in the 1970’s
  • Boccia made its Paralympic debut in 1984 in New York
  • The sport will feature at the Rio Paralympics 2016
