Michelle cooks up a storm at Ashleigh Wellbeing Hub

< Return to Blog list | Feb 26, 2016

Michelle, a Work Based Training customer at ECL’s Barley Twist Café, Basildon, spoke to us about her position in the kitchen and the catering skills she’s been developing: “I love working in the kitchen! I’ve learned how to make tasty and healthy meals for the staff and my friends at the hub. Having this job is really important to me and I have learned lots of new skills and love working with the staff. They really motivate us and I don’t know what I’d do without them.”

Russ the chef at Barley Twist Café said; “ Michelle previously worked in a café at the local Asda in Basildon and when she came here she still had the passion for improving her catering skills. Today we are making some lemon tarts and Michelle is very hands on - as you can see! Michelle and the team are a joy to work with – we have a great time.”

ECL has 20 Work Based Training sites across Essex, offering adults with a learning disability the opportunity to develop transferable skills for future employment.
