Essex Cares to host free Health and Wellbeing event

Older adults and their families can find out more about living independently and becoming an active member of their local community by attending a free Essex Cares Health and Wellbeing Information Day in Colchester this July.

Adult social care provider Essex Cares is hosting the event to enable older adults to find out more about living safely at home and improving their health and wellbeing. The event will take place at Essex Cares’ Woodlands Wellbeing & Activity Centre, Recreation Road, Colchester on Saturday 27 July from 10am to 2pm.

Representatives from Essex Cares’ Equipment Service will demonstrate to visitors some of the home care products available, from small aids such as pendant alarms, to more specialist equipment including bath lifts.

There will be presentations throughout the day from guest speakers including a session from the Falls Prevention Service on staying safe in the home and preventing accidents as well as Colchester Community Voluntary Service (CCVS) speaking to visitors about how to get involved in some of the volunteer schemes in and around Colchester.

Teri Gooch, from Essex Cares, said: “This event is for older adults and their families to explore some of the options open to them so that they can remain independent in their own home and continue to be an active member of their local community. Every year we help over 115,000 people across Essex to lead independent lives and we hope that people will come along and find out more about the services we provide.

“We will also have some partner organisations on hand to offer specialist services, including free health checks from Anglian Community Enterprise.”

In addition, visitors can enjoy cream teas and stock up on garden essentials at the plant sale, which have been prepared by adults with learning disabilities who use the Woodlands Wellbeing & Activity Centre to gain work experience as a stepping stone into paid employment.

Representatives from Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Helpline and Go Active Leisure will also be at the event to offer advice about their services.
