Creating New Boundaries in Adult Social Care

< Return to Blog list | Jul 23, 2012

Essex Cares has celebrated its third birthday on the 1st July this year which marks a major milestone for one of the Country’s first Adult Social Care Local Authority Trading Companies (LATC).

Three years on Essex Cares has now delivered local services to over 150,000 individuals during that time and issued in excess of 400,000 individual equipment items to assist with daily living and social care support and prevention packages.

Our latest 2011/12 Impact Report is available now on our website which provides details of our last year’s activity on behalf of Essex Citizens and how we have made a difference to people’s lives.

During July Essex Cares has created a further precedent in becoming the first LATC to be awarded contract outside of our host county.

The signing of an annual contract worth in excess of £2 million per year to deliver specialist Reablement Services for West Sussex County Council marks a significant point in demonstrating the success of the LATC model in both modernising former in-house local authority services and then demonstrating the value of introducing an entrepreneurial and commercial framework to developing new service models to meet the requirements of a preventive agenda in social care.

A number of other Councils have now formed LATC’s or are thinking about doing so who will be encouraged by the continued success of Essex Cares as a pioneering LATC.
