Get in touchWe are a forward thinking day centre dedicated to providing person-centred support to adults with learning disabilities and/or autism
About us
At ECL Basildon Learning Disabilities Day Centre we will support you to gain the skills you need to live your life to the full, whether that is to live a more independent adult life, get a paid job, or improve your social and support network.
It is important that you are able to make choices about how you spend your time with us. We use a variety of communication methods and tools to understand your needs, views, and preferences.
We incorporate qualifications such as ASDAN into the sessions to help you learn life skills in a relaxed, but structured environment.
We make sure we have lots of fun along the way as learning is so much easier when it is enjoyable!
We are fortunate to be located next to a local parade of shops, cafes and a library. We are just over a mile away from Basildon town centre where there is a shopping centre, market, cinema, theatre and various places of worship. The Festival Leisure Park is just a 10 minute drive away offering restaurants, bowling, arcades, crazy golf, and a wakeboard aqua park.
We are spoiled for choice for parks and regularly pay them a visit for our daily exercise and to enjoy the scenery.
We will encourage and support you to engage in community based activities and interests. We have a wide choice of local clubs including the Craft Shed where you can participate in craft and pottery sessions, Happy Hub for mental health and wellness sessions, and the Basildon Sporting Village and Eversley centre for sports and fitness.
We incorporate the community in our learning wherever possible, for example in a 'shop and cook' session we use the local library to look at recipe books, we practise using public transport to access the food shops, or we walk to the local shops to work on our road safety and stranger danger awareness. All these experiences help you to become more independent and live safely within your community.
To complement our community based activities we will create you a centre based programme to help you reach your goals. We offer a wide range of activities designed to build your confidence, promote greater independence, and develop your social skills.
Activities are fun while teaching valuable life skills, for example, a cooking session is used to teach skills such as maths (weighing and measuring), literacy (reading recipes and packaging), IT (researching recipes and creating shopping lists) and budgeting. Working alongside your peers to plan the menu, discuss healthy options, prepare the meal, and eat together develops your social skills and teamwork.
We offer ASDAN courses to provide a structure for learning independent living skills and the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications.
We also work with external education providers such as ACL who deliver various courses including maths, english and 'find your voice' within our centre.
We offer person-centred care for customers with a range of support needs from mild and moderate learning disabilities, to profound and multiple learning disabilities and related health conditions, autism and communication difficulties.
