Dementia specialists

ECL’s day centres employ best practice and use the latest techniques to support health and wellbeing for those living with dementia including Vascular, Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, Frontotemporal and mixed dementia.

Every individual working at a day centre has undertaken NVQ Health and Social Care Dementia Levels 1 and 2 and active support training. Some of the team have further qualifications including Level 6 Caring for People with Dementia.

All our activities are tailored to ensure all customers can join in by working towards their support plan which is regularly reviewed and updated. We use a variety of techniques in support of this which may include shortened sessions, prompting, visual aids and a variety of different equipment.

Dementia friendly environment

Each centre provides a ‘home from home’ feel; the environment and furniture are specifically designed for older people living with dementia, in line with the University of Stirling Gold Dementia Accreditation criteria. All of our day services work within these principles and values, which are:

  • Ensuring ‘way finding’ is in place to support movement around the building.
  • Ensuring colour contrasts are dementia friendly.
  • Always maintaining a safe and secure environment, so you don’t need to worry about your loved one wandering outside unaccompanied.
