Langdon Hills Golf Club

Tony and his team at Langdon Hills Golf Club took the decision to become a more inclusive employer and after consultation with ECL, the management team reviewed current job roles and work processes to ensure that they could offer suitable employment and invited candidates to apply.

“ECL job candidate, Joshua interviewed extremely well, he showed great interest and was very confident at his job trial, interacting well with the other team members, we were optimistic he'd be an excellent appointment"

Langdon Hills Golf Club set in 197 acres of stunning Essex countryside is a 27-hole golf course with 500 plus members and a country club which runs corporate golf days and events. Rischo Leisure, part of the Heronslea group, purchased Langdon Hills Golf Club in September 2019 with the vision of transforming the venue into a centre of golfing excellence and to create a community for Thurrock residents that puts health, wellness, and mindfulness at its heart.

Langdon Hills Golf Club employs 60 people one of which is Tony Dunstan the Course Director, who has worked for the company for almost 20 years and is responsible for the maintenance and health and safety of the entire site.

Tony explained "ECL’s Inclusive Employment Consultants have been very supportive throughout the recruitment and induction process, they created simplified versions of our risk assessments and working practices to make them easier for Joshua to understand – something I wouldn’t have considered without their guidance. They have also helped Joshua to organise his travel arrangements and have been there for both him and us throughout the first few weeks of his employment. The communication and support from the ECL team has been nothing but impressive.

Joshua has settled in as a ground’s maintenance operative exceptionally well, his timekeeping is excellent and his commitment to work is 100%. Joshua listens carefully to his instructions and works well with both the team and on his own. He is confident at break times and happily gets along with everyone. Joshua also has a very good memory and has on occasion, reminded me of things that were scheduled for the day, that I had forgotten!

I must admit that initially we were concerned on how Joshua would integrate into the team and how we could adjust our working practices to accommodate his needs. But after the first few days it was enlightening to see how employing Joshua has bought the team closer together.

We are looking forward to working with ECL over the coming years as our business expands and develops, forming this partnership is an essential step towards Langdon Hills Golf Club achieving its ambition of becoming a Disability Confident employer.”

I wish we had come across ECL before, however the future at Langdon Hills is promising and we hope to offer more inclusive employment opportunities to people in our community. The response from the membership at the club has been 100% supportive and I would not hesitate to recommend ECL and the Inclusive Employment programme.
