We are a day centre which aims to maximise the confidence, independence, and quality of life for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. We are fortunate to be situated within stunning grounds and have a professional kitchen, affording opportunities to expand your horticulture or catering skills.

About us

ECL Bocking - Roundwood Day Centre is here to support you to live as independently as possible in your local community. We're here to help you have the choice and control to enjoy living life the way you choose.

We will work with you to develop a programme of activities tailored to your individual needs and personal goals. We will support you step by step to follow your plan, helping you to build your knowledge, skills, and confidence.

At ECL Bocking - Roundwood Day Centre we are committed to supporting you to be integrated within your local community. We hold community activity sessions where we find out what activities you would like to try; this could be a hobby, doing some work experience, or just gaining confidence in being out and about . We will help you to find appropriate activities and support you to participate in them.

We run regular sessions to help you become more independent in the community. Our popular shop and cook activities will help you to navigate getting to your local shops safely, requesting help, communicating with store staff, and managing your money.

We participate in Community 360 walks which allow you to enjoy some exercise and interact with other members of the public.

In our culture sessions you can visit places of worship, either to engage in worship or community sessions, or just explore other religions or cultures.

Our litter picking sessions enable us to get some fresh air and do something worthwhile in our local neighbourhood.

We also enjoy shopping at Braintree Village, a visit to the cinema, or a trip to the bowling alley in Braintree, all of which promote our social interaction and build our confidence in the community...while having a bit of fun along the way!

To complement our community based activities we offer a diverse centre-based activity programme designed to help you reach your goals. Activities are fun, while teaching valuable life skills, building your confidence, promoting greater independence, and developing your social skills.

Regular activities include:

  • Sensory gardening
  • Creating newsletters using IT
  • Art using canvas - preparing for exhibitions
  • Woodwork
  • Money recognition and management workshops
  • Mindfulness and wellbeing (including yoga, customer-led Thai Chi, walking)
  • Basic IT

We offer person-centred care for customers with a range of support needs from mild and moderate learning disabilities, to those with higher support needs and related health conditions, autism and communication difficulties.

Our staff receive specialist training to meet the needs of the customers they support. Training includes:

We are lucky to have in our team 'Horticulture Steve' and a trained kitchen assistant who is qualified to run a professional kitchen. These members of staff are able to train and support customers who are particularly interested in horticulture and catering.

We are certified to offer ASDAN training to customers who enjoy a more structured approach to learning and would like to achieve formal qualifications in recognition of their new skills.

If employment is one of your goals, we can help you to gain the skills and confidence you need at our day centre. We can then refer you to ECL's Inclusive Employment programme when you feel ready to be fully supported into a job.

At ECL we work with you to identify your goals and put together a tailored plan unique to you. One of our team will assess the level of support you need, and prices will be based on the recommendations, along with how many sessions you would like to attend.
