About us
Our dementia-friendly day centres are designed to maintain and enhance the independence, wellbeing, and relationships of our customers. We believe in enabling people to live fulfilling lives through our holistic range of activities and services.
As well as delivering unrivalled care for our customers, we also understand the need to support carers and provide them with vital respite. Our ultimate goal is to help people to continue living happily with their loved ones in their own homes for as long as possible.
Our experienced team and inclusive setting mean we’re well-placed to provide specialist dementia and Alzheimer’s day care, as well as offering support to those with Parkinson’s and other complex health needs.
At ECL, we recognise the importance of keeping our customers connected to the communities they live in. Hogarth & Lions is located close to Brentwood town centre, with its many shops, cafes and restaurants - we’ll often venture into town to have a wander round or enjoy a lovely lunch.
The area’s wonderful country parks are havens for nature-lovers and walkers, while Thorndon Park is home to the now famous Gruffalo Trail.
As well as encouraging our day centre customers to get out and about, we also like to invite people in to join us and will occasionally welcome guest speakers from organisations like the Alzheimer's Society.
Getting to Hogarth & Lions Day Centre is easy thanks to its excellent public transport links. The service can be reached by road or rail, with a bus stop just a short walk away making journeys to the centre of Brentwood a breeze. Brentwood station is also close by, for customers or relatives joining us from further afield.
We are fully accessible, with wheelchair-friendly facilities and a trusty Sara Stedy transfer aid to make moving around the site safer, as well as an overhead tracking hoist and handrails for assisting customers in the bathroom.
We can adapt our staff support ratios to the needs of our customers and are also able to assist adults with medication during their days with us. Among our team, we have professionals qualified to provide specialist care for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Parkinson’s. We’re also able to care for those who demonstrate behaviours that challenge and can support people with modified diets or diabetes in line with their NHS clinical plans.
All the facilities at Hogarth & Lions Day Centre are designed to cater to the diverse needs and interests of our customers, who include those with dementia and Parkinson’s, as well as older people with other complex health conditions.
The space is safe, welcoming and homely, with dementia-friendly chairs and a whole host of features that serve to engage and enrich our customers’ experience.
The main room is always a hive of activity. A hub for entertainment, here you’ll find a large TV on which customers can view their favourite films, as well as iPads for internet browsing and Alexa devices for listening to music. Customers can even play a selection of games on our communal Nintendo Wii.
OMI, an interactive LED light is also available, flooding surfaces with colour to create a stunning kaleidoscope effect, known to increase participation and social engagement for people with dementia.
For customers who find communication a challenge, we have a range of communication aids available including talking mats, memory boxes, and magnifying glasses.
Our schedule of activities at Hogarth & Lions Day Centre has been designed with all our customers in mind, whether that be an older person with limited mobility, someone living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, or an adult with complex health needs.
We want to ensure that all our customers can actively participate, which is why we encourage input from the people we support to shape our activity programme, including chances to reestablish and share hobbies that may have been long forgotten. The schedule is regularly reviewed and adapted to suit the individual’s evolving needs and interests.
Customers can choose to join in with lively karaoke sessions, take part in fun quizzes, and get stuck into a whole host of arts and crafts projects. They can get outdoors and flex their green fingers with some gardening or participate in mindful relaxation and breathwork.
We also lead music clubs, share insights into other cultures and communities, and play nostalgic games to trigger happy memories.
On any given day, you’ll find that our flexible roster of activities aims to promote the maintenance of cognitive skills, provide opportunities for reminiscence, and allow our wonderful customers to exert autonomy over how they spend their time.
Our highly skilled specialists are dedicated to creating a warm, positive atmosphere at Hogarth & Lions Day Centre. They are experienced in supporting older people with sensory impairments, dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer's but also understand that caregivers require support as well. That’s why our services cater to the needs of our customers and carers, recognising the importance of taking time out to reset and recharge.
Both the day centre and the schedule of activities we’ve curated have been carefully conceived to foster independence and improve the overall wellbeing of our customers. You’ll also find a hot two-course meal on offer, as well as tea, toast, and biscuits waiting on arrival, because whether on or offsite, we want everyone to feel fed, fulfilled and happy during their time with us.
Everyone is different, so we’ll work with you to identify what your objectives are and create a tailor-made plan to meet them. Whether you’re looking for invaluable respite care, regular dementia support, or simply a place to go where you’re always guaranteed a warm welcome, ECL can help.
After an initial consultation, one of our team members will assess the level of support required and provide an individual care plan, with the price based on those recommendations and the number of sessions you would like to attend.
