My experience is evidence of what’s possible for ambitious people with an appetite to learn.

Despite having worked in a host of roles in retail and hospitality, Oliver knew he’d finally found his calling when he made the move to his first care job some 15 years ago. He went on to spend a decade gaining valuable experience in residential care settings, before starting his journey with ECL in 2019.

Oliver says, “Working in care is definitely more than just a job, it’s a vocation. None of the roles I’d had before I became a domestic assistant suited me in the way that the care sector does”.

After ten years in residential care homes, Oliver was keen to take on a new challenge and wanted to expand his knowledge base. Luckily, he came across a listing online for a job supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities with ECL and, after a positive interview, was delighted to hear he’d been successful.

“The idea of working for a day service really appealed to me and I was excited to build a greater understanding of other aspects of social care,” says Oliver. “The team and my manager were so welcoming from the outset – I was made to feel like part of the family right from the off and that support has continued ever since.”

Having historically supported older people with dementia or Alzheimer’s, Oliver was soon drawn back to what he knew and when an opportunity presented itself, he decided to make the jump over to ECL’s older people service.

He says, “I’m so pleased to be able to keep growing, learning and doing what I love with a company like ECL. I was promoted within a year of joining the business, and then shortly after that I stepped up into the role of Team Leader. My experience is evidence of what’s possible for ambitious people with an appetite to learn. At every stage, I’ve been offered training to ensure I’m able to do the absolute best for our customers while being encouraged to further my own professional development.”

“There are so many brilliant things about my job,” says Oliver. “I love the customers we support and the team I’m lucky enough to work with, but I also enjoy being able to interact with the wider ECL community and the fantastic third-party experts we can turn to for advice. Leading this brilliant team makes me very proud.”
