About us

Our dementia-friendly day centres are designed to maintain and enhance the independence, wellbeing, and relationships of our customers. We believe in enabling people to live fulfilling lives through our holistic range of activities and services.

As well as delivering unrivalled care for our customers, we also understand the need to support carers and provide them with vital respite. Our ultimate goal is to help people to continue living happily with their loved ones in their own homes for as long as possible.

Our experienced team and inclusive setting mean we’re well-placed to provide specialist dementia day care and support for those with additional health needs.

Local community

At ECL, we recognise the importance of keeping our customers connected to the communities they live in. That’s why we encourage integration with the community by arranging regular, fun day trips to local sites like garden centres, shops, and cafes.

Getting out and about is a fantastic way to keep people connected to and engaged with the goings on in their neighbourhoods, but we also like to invite others in. At Millicents, we facilitate intergenerational activities with children from schools in the area and are often lucky enough to be invited to take customers along to attend plays and concerts.

Transport and accessibility

Millicents is located close to Clacton-On-Sea's town centre, so using public transport to access the day centre is easy. We also have a dedicated car which is available to customers who need additional support to reach us.

We are fully accessible, with wheelchair-friendly facilities and a trusty Sara Stedy transfer aid to make moving around the site even easier. We can adapt our staff support ratios to the needs of our customers and are also able to assist adults with medication, enteral feeding, and speech and language therapy (SALT) plans.

Facilties

When you arrive at Millicents, you’ll find a spacious and welcoming main activity room designed to cater to the diverse needs and interests of our customers, who include adults with dementia and older people with complex medical conditions.

Our new garden room and conservatory is a wonderfully bright, light-filled space that is perfect for relaxing, playing games or enjoying a non-alcoholic drink at ‘Millicents’ Pub’.

In the summer, our customers can enjoy the peace and quiet of our patio area and garden, which has its own beautiful summer house.

Elsewhere, our family room is an inviting space where visitors can spend quality time with their loved ones, while the specialist walk-in-bathing facilities mean customers can indulge themselves with a luxurious bath and relaxing pamper session.

The main activity room is a hub of entertainment, with a large TV for screening favourite films and iPads, laptops, and Alexa devices available for browsing the internet or listening to music.

OMI, an interactive LED light is also available, flooding surfaces with colour to create a stunning kaleidoscope effect, known to increase participation and social engagement for those living with dementia.

Activities

Our schedule of activities has been designed with all our customers in mind, whether that be an older person with limited mobility, someone living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, or an adult with complex medical needs.

We want to ensure that all our customers can actively participate in our day care programme, which includes everything from chair tennis and darts to karaoke and arts and crafts.

A professional singer visits us weekly to perform classic hits, and we also welcome a FABS (Fitness and Balance) instructor three times a week, who leads fun and accessible exercise sessions.

Every day, our chef prepares delicious homemade lunches, and once a week our customers have the chance to join them for simple cooking and baking lessons.

At Millicents, we understand the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, which is why we also hold a monthly Memory Café. During these sessions, we invite those with memory loss, including people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, to enjoy a coffee with their family and carers in a relaxing, safe environment.

Our approach to your care

Our highly skilled specialists are dedicated to creating a warm, positive atmosphere at Millicents. They are experienced in supporting older people with sensory impairments, learning disabilities, dementia, and Alzheimer's but also understand that caregivers require support as well. That’s why our services cater to the needs of our customers and carers, recognising the importance of taking time out to reset and recharge.

Both the day centre and the schedule of activities we’ve curated have been carefully conceived to foster independence and improve the overall wellbeing of our customers. You’ll always find a hot two-course meal on offer, because whether on or offsite, we want everyone to feel fed, fulfilled and happy during their time with us.

Pricing

Everyone is different, so we’ll work with you to identify what your objectives are and create a tailor-made plan to meet them. Whether you’re looking for invaluable respite care, regular dementia support, or simply a place to go where you’re always guaranteed a warm welcome, ECL can help.

After an initial consultation, one of our team members will assess the level of support required and provide an individual care plan, with the price based on those recommendations and the number of sessions you would like to attend.
