Celebrating the People Who Help ECL Make a Difference
National Apprenticeship Week 2026
National Apprenticeship Week is an important moment for us at ECL. It gives us the chance to recognise the colleagues who are building their skills and shaping their careers while helping us deliver the high quality support our customers and their families rely on.
Across ECL, 58 colleagues are currently completing apprenticeships. Each one brings dedication, curiosity, and a real commitment to providing excellent care and support. Their growth strengthens our teams and helps us continue to offer services that enhance people’s quality of life.
Supporting people to grow
Apprenticeships at ECL give colleagues the chance to learn, develop, and take on new challenges. Many tell us that the opportunity to study while working has helped them grow in confidence and discover strengths they didn’t know they had.
Apprenticeships are vital for gaining experience while learning — they keep skills alive. ECL are committed to developing people at all stages of their careers, not just those starting out.
James Pye, Facilities Manager and Building Surveying apprentice at ECL
We make sure every apprentice feels supported. Managers take time to guide and encourage. Teams share knowledge and experience. Colleagues look out for one another. This creates a workplace where people feel trusted, respected, and able to do their best work.
Lorraine Bavister, Sensory Rehabilitation Worker and apprentice said,“ECL has a really good working environment, everyone is supportive. There are always people you can go to when you may have a problem. Whenever I ask to do something, they’ll always take the time to listen to what you ask and try and work with you to make that goal happen.”
Investing in our colleagues is a top priority for us at ECL. Upskilling not only improves the quality of our services for customers, but also helps ensure colleagues feel valued...
Jennifer Aylen, Director of People and Change, ECL
"...Employees who are supported to achieve their goals are more fulfilled at work and this translates to a more motivated workforce. It shows in the way they support customers. It shows in the care they take, the pride they have in their work, and the way they work together to make a positive difference and ensure that every customer receives support they deserve.” Jennifer Aylen, Director of People and Change.
Looking ahead
As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we are proud of every colleague who has chosen to learn something new and take the next step in their career. Their dedication reflects the culture we work hard to build - one where people care about what they do, act with integrity, and strive for excellence together.
“I’m always learning something new, always progressing and always looking at what’s next. I feel that at ECL, the sky’s the limit when it comes to learning.” Tim Rudd, Learning and Development Advisor and apprentice.
