ECL Older People and the Colchester United Community Foundation
ECL Colchester Older People Day Centre have partnered with Colchester United Community Foundation (CUCF) to offer an exciting day out for customers.
On a Thursday, CUCF offer a range of activities at their Shrub End Community Centre, free for the community to attend. Individuals can play table tennis, curling and take part in a game of walking football, with a team made up of other members of the community. Afterwards they can enjoy a well-earned cup of tea and a biscuit with their team.
The partnership aims to provide customers with a fun, and different day out, a great form of exercise and the opportunity to make friends and socialise with others in their community.
It's nice to be involved in community activities and meet new people. I used to be a football referee, so I will enjoy going again and doing the walking football session

Charlotte Fleming, PE & Sports Mentor at CUCF said- “I thoroughly enjoy working and spending my mornings with the guys at Senior U’s. It’s amazing to be a part of something so special and to help make an impact on people – small things can really go a long way. It’s why we do the job we do, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Ed King, Head of development & Investment at CUCF said - “From participants bringing in cakes, and even organising their own Christmas event, it is clear the sessions have helped create something much more than just a weekly session, it is a genuine community.”
I really enjoyed it, and I hope to go again. We even got coffee and biscuits! There were other people there, I think they were from another club. It's nice to all come together.
