Buzz in the City 2025

Our Chelmsford day services for older people and people with learning disabilities and/or autism had an amazing time participating in Chelmsford’s first ever sculpture art trail, Buzz in the City during the summer of 2025.

Our Chelmsford day services for older people and people with learning disabilities and/or autism had an amazing time participating in Chelmsford’s first ever sculpture art trail, Buzz in the City during the summer of 2025.

Organised by Farleigh Hospice, Chelmsford For You, and Chelmsford City Council, Buzz in the City was an art trail that featured a swarm of colourful bee sculptures sponsored by local organisations to raise vital funds for the hospice.

The swarm consisted of 30 large, six-foot-high bee sculptures and 25 smaller ‘mini’ bees located in places of interest throughout the centre of Chelmsford. The large bees were decorated with a unique design by local artists and the mini bees were decorated by local schools and community groups and were on display from 5 July to 9 September 2025.

ECL was delighted to sponsor a large bee sculpture and three mini bees. Our mini bees were decorated by individuals that attend our Chelmsford-based Highfields and Charles Dickens day centres with the creative support of local artist Jennifer Flint.

Affectionately named Betty, Bubbles and BB by the centres, the mini bees were showcased in Chelmsford Library as well as The Meadows, and High Chelmer shopping centres. Once the trail ended the bees flew back to ECL and now have pride of place in the gardens at Highfields and Charles Dickens Centres for everyone to enjoy.

We were thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful community project, it was something those we support, their families and our employees enjoyed.

Peter Fairley, ECL Managing Director

"Everyone at our Chelmsford day centres had a great time decorating their bees and loved seeing them in situ in the town centre over the summer. The bees looked wonderful and everyone at our Chelmsford centres are very proud that their art work was featured in the trail.

“Community engagement is at the heart of what we do, the people we support in our services get so much fulfilment from both creative and community-based activities, so this was the ideal project for us to be involved with.” Peter Fairley, ECL Managing Director
